Destin Vacation Boat Rentals: Preferred Partners Feature

In the spirit of Spring Break, we are excited to introduce you to our preferred partner, Destin Vacation Boat Rentals! Heather and her husband Chris had a vision for a business that could help solve the booking needs for many of the Watersports companies in town. Read on to learn more about their story and what all their business entails!

Tell us more about you and your background!
We actually grew up here on the Emerald Coast. My husband, Chris, and I met just after I graduated high school. His dad was a charter boat captain in Destin, and so that was my first real exposure to what it was like running a charter business. My husband wanted to open a jet ski rental business even way back then (early 90s), but as a young couple we didn’t really have any money to start a business so we wound up pursuing other, more traditional jobs. I became a nurse and Chris went to work for a large telecom company and we did that for a little over 10 years, before we decided that we still really wanted to work on the water. My father-in-law passed away around that time and it was a very eye opening experience for us and made us realize that life is too short to ignore your dreams, so we quit our jobs and opened Destin Vacation Boat Rentals in 2008. We started with 2 pontoon boats on a little beach on the Harbor, behind a family friend’s house, and over the past decade it has grown, moved, and eventually morphed into becoming the largest provider of watersports activities on the Emerald Coast.

What all does Destin Vacation Boat Rentals offer?
We do it all! We offer boat and jet ski rentals; fishing, sailing, and yacht charters, dolphin tours on waverunners, speed boat tours, and even captain services.

Can you explain how the process works, from booking to completion?
To hold a reservation, we take a small deposit (10-15% depending on the activity) and send a confirmation email with activity-specific check-in instructions including address and directions to the rental location. The remaining balance is just due at time of departure, when we go over waivers and do our pre-departure instruction. Rental guests who have never piloted a boat before will be given instructions and everyone gets a map so that we can point out all the spots of interest that are relevant to the activity.
