Float Brothers Float Spa Destin Florida opened in January 2016 by brothers Trey and Chris Hearn, after experiencing float therapy themselves and seeing the benefits first hand. After over a year of researching and planning, they opened their doors in Destin and started changing lives.

“My brother and I had always wanted to start a business together, but never found anything that we were both passionate about until we found float therapy,” Trey said. “After the back pain relief it gave my brother, the stress relief it provided me, and the anxiety/PTSD relief it was providing others, we knew we found the right business to bring to the Emerald Coast. Our goal from the beginning is to help as many people as we can through floating.”

There are a variety of reasons to try Float Therapy, including pain management, meditation, muscle recovery, and relaxation. It’s also a favorite among pregnant women, active military or veterans to treat PTSD. What makes it so unique is that inside a float POD is the only place to experience a relaxation so complete. Your body feels as one with the water, and all your weight is evenly distributed giving yourself a weightless feel. Combine that with erasing the outside world with complete darkness and silence, and you’ll feel more relaxed than you ever have.

A typical float looks like this: you arrive, shower off in your private room, and enter your POD. Floating in the nude is preferred but if you’re more comfortable, a swimsuit can also be worn. The water is kept at 93.5 degrees and 1000lbs of medical grade Epsom salt is added to the water, keeping your body afloat on the surface. Once inside the POD, you have the option to open or close the lid, turn the lights on or off, and choose their meditation music or keep the silence with the provided ear plugs (they also have an auxiliary plug if you’d like to listen to something different). In this sensory-reduced environment, without sight, sound, or weight, simply lay back and let your mind run free.

A few other things worth noting: the Epsom salt acts as a detoxifier, which is great for your skin. There are no restrictions on how often you can float, so feel free to go as often as you’d like. The Destin Float Brothers location has 4 PODs available, so if you want to bring a friend to float the same time, you’re welcome to – but only one body per POD is allowed.

There are two other common questions they receive frequently that may have already crossed your mind. The first is how the tanks and water are kept clean. Float Brothers is health department certified, and the water is filtered 5x between each float, making it cleaner than even your bath water at home. The other is what happens if you feel claustrophobic. People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems being inside the POD, as you are always fully in control of your environment. The POD measures 5’ x 9’ so it’s much larger than you’d expect, and lid can be kept open if at any time you feel closed in.
